Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen Review

I'm rather puzzled by the response to Transformers 2; the range of reactions I have personally heard from movie goers ranges from “Oh my god, so much better than the first” to “terrible, boring and cheesy sex jokes.”

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen begins not long after the first ends. Sam Witwicky (Shia LeBeouf) has graduated and is still with super hottie Mikaela Barnes (Megan Fox) with college on the horizon. At the same time the Transformers are partnered with Major Lennox (Josh Duhamel ) and his team hunting the hidden Decepticons led by Starscream and Megatron is still at the bottom of the ocean.

The story centers on an ancient Prime known as The Fallen, so named for betraying the other Primes and trying to destroy a living planet (Earth). Sacrificing their lives to save a planet of humans they don’t even know, they thwart the evil ones plot. A little bit biblical perhaps, but it works.

His despicable and dastardly deeds stymied, The Fallen escapes to another world to plan his revenge. I find it odd that he just didn’t take over the Earth with superior force, but oh well it was unclear whether there were forces to stop him. The Fallen gathers minions, including the Decepticons, and plans for revenge…again not sure who against because the Primes that died to save humankind are gone and humans are certainly no threat. The idea is to find the missing shard of the Allspark to resurrect Megatron and continue with the Fallen’s evil plot: destroying Earth’s sun and capturing the energy released, whew.

Yes, that’s what the movie was like for me, too much, too quick and too confusing. I liked the film but I found it impossible keeping up with the characters, plot and even the story. Transformer: Revenge of the Fallen is fun, funny and action packed, only some of the jokes are cheap sex jokes (I can only take so much weird humping), the action is often too fast and furious and the characters even more over the top and silly than the original and there are reefer brownies. While a few reefer brownies can help my perspective, they seem a little unneeded when the character is goofy enough already. I love goofy intelligent humor, but the key word is intelligent.

Actually I’m not going to trash the film because I was very entertained and, with the exception of some big gaps that were distracting, I had fun. Don’t expect too much, this was clearly a blockbuster made to awe the audience with CGI, but there was plenty of humor and character too, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is going to well at box office and it must be seen in the theatre it would lose impact at home.

I loved it. 4 out of 5 to me. Still could use a little more work on the camera.

I really enjoyed this movie. I don't think it was quite as good as the first movie, but sequals rarely are. I thought the action was fantastic, but a little to fast paced. I thought the mother had the best lines of the movie. She was hilarious. The little robot on the chain was a great touch and the innuendo clobbered you over the head. It was great.

God, see what I mean, lol. This one is going to be all over the map. I think most
"people" think the movie is good or great and most critics, so far, think it's a turking, kind of the Forrest Gump of the of the blockbuster action genre: Run Sammy Run!

Can't say this sequel wasn't necessarily enjoyable on a great scale but it really didn't give me that thrill a minute rollercoaster ride feel that I felt in the first movie. I never ever want to see John Turturro in a thong again. A little too much gross in your face comedy for me.

Oh and Luke a list of sequels better than the first:

Terminator 2
The Empire Strikes Back
Toy Story 2
Spiderman 2
The Dark Knight
Shrek 2
Star Trek 2:The Wrath of Kahn
Mission Impossible 2

Just to name a few...

You know, I really think we should do a Top 5 Sequels That Were Better Than the Original episode. I agree with many of yours, except MI2. I haven't watched Wrath of Kahn, but MI1 has always been my favorite of that franchise.

Hadn't listned to the podcast yet, but I think this is the best movie ever, if you discount all the mistakes, the lack of intelligence and continuity. If you don't look at those things this movie was GREAT!!!!!!! Michael Bay does it again.

(after a almost a year thought, WHAT WAS I THINKING????)

I'm actually pretty certain we did that podcast Luke or should have. As for the movie, I'm not too disappointed. It could have been much, much worse. Arguably Godfather 2 was better than the first only marginally so. Ice Age 2 I thought was much better and Ice Age too. Oh and the second Star Trek: Next Generation 2 was much better than the first.
