Amanda Seyfried and Channing Tatum's Dear John Conquers Avatar at Box Office

Who would have guessed all it took to slay box office's dragon (Avatar) would be a "Dear John" letter? Amanda Seyfried and Channing Tatum's Dear John–based on the Nicholas Sparks' novel–earned $32.4 million, knocking Avatar to No. 2 with $23.6 million.
This is just the latest in a series of successes for Seyfried, who recently admitted her acting on As the World Turns "was so bad they had to ship my character off." In Seyfried 2008 starred opposite Meryl Streep in Mamma Mia!, then in 2009 she presented and performed at the Oscars. Last week HBO picked up her primetime series Big Love for a fifth season— though Seyfried announced earlier this years this season would be her last on Big Love. In May she stars with Vanessa Redgrave in Letters to Juliet (watch the trailer here).
