Summer Box Office 2009 Set Records

Variety is reporting that 2009 has already become the highest-grossing summer ever at the domestic box office. So far, the box office revenues are $4.17 billion, compared to $4.16 billion for summer 2007, the previous record holder. This Labor Day weekend should add another $100 million or more to the total tally, meaning thi summer would be up at least 3% in grosses over 2007.

What Was The Best Movie From The Summer 2009?

Well the summer movie season of 2009 is now officially done. There were some great hits (Star Trek) and quite a few misses (Year One) this season that begins officially May 1 and runs to August 31. I generally don't count those films that are realeased in March or April because they are still technically part of the spring film season (eg. Watchmen). This leads to my big question of the day:

Things are looking up at the box office for movie studios this summer despite the world recession. This is truly impressive for an aging franchise, however is just proves the loyalty of the series fanbase. So far plenty has gone right this summer season as it remains on track to set a box office record when final grosses are tallied after Labor Day in early September. READ MORE

I don't think there is a single movie I'm looking forward to more in August than G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, though I am hedging my bets. It looks like it could either be really good, or really bad. Hopefully it is the first.
