Top 10 Must Have Funny Scary Movies

Juicy zombie goodness, freaky slasher fun and cowardly vampire killers all get together in this list of the funny scary movies that you must have. You’ve just watched Twilight, True Blood’s season finale left you wanting more, or the vampire you had over for dinner is looking mighty hungry and your pet just wasn’t enough? Put on one of these films and take the hungry bloodsucker’s mind off your pulsating neck (oh, and head to the bedroom for a scarf). These are movies I’d recommend to anyone.

No. 10: The Fearless Vampire Killers - Wacky, wacky, wacky is all I can say about this semi-traditional take on the Dracula story. It's sexy, sexy, sexy too... and funny, funny, funny. If you don’t enjoy this one, you must BE one of the undead. READ MORE

Top 10 Must Have Fraternity and College Films

These are the wacky films about the good old days that everyone loves. All the characters are young (except the evil administrators and their minions), full of piss and vinegar and ready to get stupid. They're ready and willing to act like idiots, party hard, get drunk and get laid. If there’s a little heart in the film, so much the better. These ten fraternity films may not be the best, but are definitely the ten you must have. Join Bluto, Van Wilder and Chris Knight in the “best years of their life.”

No. 10: Accepted - Never say that the greatest schools are the ivy-covered ones. This "Do It Yourself U" story is largely innovative and certainly original. Featuring Justin Long and Jonah Hill, Accepted manages to delight and make the audience laugh while still asking the question, what if?

No. 9: Creator - I expect to be challenged on this one, but Peter O’Toole, as the cigar smoking genius professor who wants only to have his wife back, makes it worth the challenge. No spoilers on this one. See it, buy it, watch it once a year. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. READ MORE

Top 10 Must Have Romantic Comedies

The list of romantic comedies must be all of this and more: easy to watch again and again, funny but not distractingly so and fun. Each of these films is one that I have delighted over again and again and would never be without. Please challenge me with others I will not hesitate to consider changes, additions or even a next 10 must haves.

No. 10: SENSE AND SENSIBILITY (1995) - Jane Austen endures in film as well as anyone before her and Sense and Sensibility is my personal favorite film based on her work. Emma Thompson brings her wonderful talent and heart to one of the most enduring love stories ever. I would not be without this wonderful movie and suggest the same for you. I would also recommend the incredible BBC miniseries of Pride and Prejudice as a wonderful companion piece. Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy is a real treat and the best one I’ve seen.

No. 9: ABOUT LAST NIGHT (1986) - Rob Lowe and Demi Moore are excellent in this wonderful film about love and relationships. This tends to be more of a serious comedy, though Jim Belushi and Elizabeth Perkins add some humorous touches, and yet it’s easy to watch and a nice popcorn movie. Once again, I was torn by two very good films that you’ll enjoy, He Said, She Said and Footloose, both excellent films, but just not as moving for me. READ MORE

Top 10 Must Have Sci-Fi Movies

These are the films you must own or I shall heartily scoff at you. These are also those films that hardcore Sci-Fi maniacs and/or elitists discuss regularly. Be prepared to defend yourself should you attempt to claim that such films as Star Trek or Star Wars are “real” Sci-Fi. I would be shocked if my picks did not generate mass hysteria in the ranks of the Sci-Fi crowd, but remember these films are not necessarily the best, just those that are the most important to have in your collection

No. 1: BLADE RUNNER - Darkly violent but in no way gratuitous, Runner paints a bleak picture of a technologically advanced future Earth where animals are no more and instead robots take their place. Originally titled “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep” the story, written by Philip K. Dick, is equally disturbing and perhaps not as good as the movie. A+ READ MORE
